Ethiopia Trip Journal Day 4 - Lake Awassa Adventures

Did I mention we didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into today?  Yep, that sums it up.

Turns out there would be a boat involved.  I'm no historian, but I think this might be the actual boat Jesus told his disciples to take to go "to the other side" (ya know, the one that almost sunk).  Thankfully we had a boat driver and a water bailer, because safety is key.  The kids were yelling "we're gonna die!" but thankfully neither of our watercraft operators spoke English, so they weren't insulted.

this picture does not even begin to do justice to how rough the ride was

Did I mention we saw hippos up close and personal?  (too up close, in my opinion)  I had a bit of a freak out moment and made the drivers turn around.  Apparently their plan was to drive over top of them??  No, I'm being serious.  That was their plan before this crazy ferenge freaked out.

Next stop, Awassa fish market.  We sort of rushed this stop because Renny had to go to the bathroom pretty bad.  I assured her this might literally be the last place on earth she would want to use the "facilities."

And then back to dry ground.  It was an amazing experience, but I've never been so thankful to step off a boat in my life.

And, this topped the charts as far as world's coolest adventure:  Monkeys

(I should not have just watched "Contagion."  Worst plane movie ever)

We finished out the day with lunch at the Lewi Resort.  Beautiful, beautiful resort, and if we ever travel back this way, this is where we will be staying.

What an adventure.  I'm thanking our good God that we are still alive and that he protected us from our stupidity and hoping it doesn't take too long for us to grow back the four layers of skin the African sun just burnt off our faces.
